Background:
The ‘Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystem Services’ project is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in India on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) at the national level and the forest departments of Himachal Pradesh (HPFD) Uttarakhand (UKFD), Uttar Pradesh (UPFD) and Madhya Pradesh (MPFD) at state level. The project supports increased orientation of forest management towards Forest Ecosystem Services approach (FES), with a focus on water availability. Support to alternate livelihood options to supplement the household incomes of forest fringe communities are being explored under the project. In Himachal Pradesh, the project is being implemented at three demonstration sites viz. Suliali, Nurpur Forest Division (District Kangra), Pathrevi, Karsog Forest Division (District Mandi) and Priyungal, Dalhousie Forest Division (District Chamba). During preliminary assessments at the demonstration sites, Pine Needles and Bamboo have been identified as forest resources with potential to extend alternate livelihood options. Therefore, to design a well-defined market strategy and market linkages for Pine Needles and Bamboo for the local communities at the demonstration sites (Pathrevi and Suliali) in Himachal Pradesh, a Technical Agency is required.
Objectives:
i. To design well-defined market strategies for utilisation of Pine Needles and Bamboo for the local communities, especially the youth and women groups.
ii. To create market linkages for Pine Needles and Bamboo for the user groups/Self-help groups (SHGs) at the demonstration sites (Pathrevi and Suliali) in Himachal Pradesh.
Tasks of the assignment:
1. Market survey and assessment for existing product demand and product relevance
2. Establish and explore market linkages and a business plan for pine needles and bamboo
3. Advertisement campaign for promotion of pine-needles and bamboo artefacts
4. Future Strategy for sustainable enterprises for pine needles and bamboo
